Unlike conventional solutions that rely on chlorinated water and extensive filter zones, the Balena system literally offers clear advantages – both in terms of sustainability and economic efficiency.

At the heart of the system is a planted flow-through filtration zone, which continuously supplies oxygen-rich water and nutrients to the microorganisms living in the substrate and root zone. These nutrients are absorbed by the filter material, broken down biologically and mostly degraded – a natural purification process with lasting effect.

The Balena system quickly establishes a stable and thriving microbiological environment that reliably removes impurities introduced through the surroundings or during use. When operated correctly, the biological filtration system works continuously – throughout the entire lifespan of your pool, swimming pond or lagoon landscape. Unlike many conventional systems, the Balena system uses targeted biological activation to produce crystal-clear water in a short time – completely chlorine-free, and often exceeding drinking water standards.

And when it comes to design options, the Balena system offers unrivalled flexibility. Whether installed internally, externally or on the pool floor, our technology integrates seamlessly into the overall design and allows for maximum creative freedom. At the same time, the system is impressively cost-efficient, as there are no chlorine residues to dispose of. In fact, the nutrient-rich wastewater can even be reused – making it ideal for irrigating gardens and green spaces.

In the past, natural swimming pools, aquatic landscapes and swimming ponds were often constrained by the 50:50 rule – with filtration and regeneration zones occupying at least half, and sometimes up to 70%, of the total surface area to achieve the desired water quality. With the Balena system, it’s a different story: thanks to the precise coordination of all system components, a specialised filter granulate, and effective forced flow through the filter zone, at least 80% of the total surface area remains available – an ideal solution, especially when space is limited.
